Technology: Data analytics specialist


he person selected will join the UOC's Technology department as a data analytics specialist.


  • Managing IT projects: undertaking feasibility analyses, carrying out effort and cost assessments, writing functional definitions, and assisting in the technical design and validation of tests.
  • Managing the suppliers involved in project development, ensuring their compliance with the best practices set for the company's information architecture.
  • Ensuring the alignment of new information requests with the defined road map, so as to ensure the company's analytical capacity grows to meet its needs.
  • Helping to define the structure, integration model, storage, modelling and maintenance of data products.
  • Providing criteria for technical solutions that could affect data domains, and offering support to technical teams for the publication of data on the information platform and the interoperability platform.
  • Collaborating with data owners to help design data products.
  • Providing the Data Office with support for the democratization of our data.
  • Determining users' access to published datasets.
  • Providing secure infrastructure for data storage, including physical security of data, and backup and restore processes.
  • Implementing data security and data access policies.
  • Engaging in data quality processes, helping to define data quality standards and making sure the right technical infrastructure is in place to meet them.
  • Identifying and resolving data-related problems.
  • Ensuring the definition and maintenance of our best practices, rules, standards, definitions and quality indicators.

The person selected will be awarded an open-ended, full-time contract, and should be available to start immediately.
The workplace will be in Barcelona. However, because of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the person selected will work from home until the circumstances change.


What we are looking for:

  • A degree in Computer Engineering, or a technical or mathematics degrees including IT qualifications.
  • At least 3 years' experience working in IT project management.
  • A strategic mindset when it comes to managing an organization's data.
  • Knowledge of the design and use of data paradigms (data warehouse, data lake, data lakehouse, data mesh, data fabric).
  • Knowledge of data cloud and cloud computing services (AWS, Snowflake, Collibra, etc.).
  • Knowledge of streaming mechanisms (Apache Kafka and similar).
  • Oral and written communication skills in both Spanish and Catalan.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or multidisciplinary group in complex environments.
  • Proactiveness, self-reliance and sharp problem-solving skills.
  • Keenness to experiment and to update and recycle skills continuously.
  • Interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of agile software development.
  • Prior experience in the university or education sector.
  • Empathy, assertiveness and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English.
