IN3: PLUS project Research Assistant

Description:

The selected person will join the team as an Assistant Researcher at the project “Platform Labour in Urban Spaces: Fairness, Welfare, Development” (PLUS) of the DIMMONS research group at the IN3 of the University.

The DIMMONS research group is part of the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, a leading research center in the field of the information and knowledge society. DIMMONS’ lines of action research are focused on the field of socio-economic and gender innovation and in connection with the digital revolution and from a feminist and pro-common perspective. DIMMONS leads and participates in competitive projects at the local, national and international levels and provides a work environment that encourages the personal and professional growth of the people who are part of it, as well as socio-economic change and transformation.

Goal: Address the main features of the impact of the platform's economy on work, welfare and social protection through an innovative trans-urban approach, focusing on this specific and significant segment of the so-called “revolution of Industry 4.0 ”, because it summarizes all the main opportunities and challenges for the future of work, social innovation and fair growth, its aim is to draw a picture of these transformations by proposing an innovative approach that identifies the urban dimension as a key stage to measure and assess social and economic impact, and build more inclusive policies.

The PLUS project is part of an innovative research network that brings together four disruptive platforms (AirBnb, Deliveroo, Helpling and Uber) and seven European cities (Barcelona, Berlin, Bologna, Lisbon, London, Paris and Tallinn).

Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator of the project, the following tasks will have to be carried out:
 
- Take responsibility for the "city union" strategy: Accompanying and supporting the follow-up of the issue and the actions decided by Barcelona City Council (policies of the Urban Ecology Area).
- Be aware of the actions of other cities and of collaborations between them.
- Represent in Barcelona at international city meetings and content return.
- Exchange and collaborate if necessary with Inside Airbnb and / or other expert actors.
- Take responsibility for expertise and promote actions to know and support alternative models that align with the interests of the city.
- Generate, promote and develop research and technological resources with a focus on Barcelona, useful for the action of the City Council, based on strategic lines.
- Be responsible for systematizing information and generating resources that contribute to European lobbying actions and joint negotiation with platforms.
- Carry out international benchmarks.
- Facilitate dissemination and communication actions through research and actions carried out.

There will be a contract for 2 months at 15 hours / week, with the expected incorporation on January 31, 2022.
 
The reference job will be the UOC headquarters in Poblenou, Barcelona (District 22 @), with an agreed telework.

What we are looking for:

- Degree in Social Sciences
- Professional knowledge of English, Catalan and Spanish
- Previous work experience in the tourism rental and tourism rental ecosystem, public policies in the field and collaboration between cities
- Analytical and executive ability to design actions between cities
- Knowledge of academic research and action research environments
- Proactive and collaborative and constructive attitude
- Autonomy, initiative, creativity and assertiveness
- Feminist values
- Organizational and work capacity
